St Mary’s Chase – Stanton-under-Bardon

The Challenge

Existing design proposal included a proposed foul water gravity outfall into an existing Severn Trent Pumping Station via a Section 98 requisition and associated fees. Earthworks required further consideration to deliver further value to the development.

Our Approach

  • Investigation of the proposed gravity outfall and engagement with network solutions.
  • Additional topographical survey instructed to establish suitability of amended outfall position.
  • Earthworks analysis to establish how and where existing site material may be redistributed.
  • Review of Drainage Strategy to establish where hydraulic performance can be improved.
  • Proposals fed into Architect’s layout to ensure sufficient drainage easement was provided.

Results

  • Alternative foul water outfall connection approved removing the requirement for the Section 98 requisition, including third party timescales and costs.
  • Earthworks reduction to prevent additional material cart off.
  • Reduction of average manhole construction depth and pipe sizes.

Lessons Learned

Additional investigation can alleviate additional costs to Developer, whilst removing reliance on third party for delivery, including timescales beyond their control. Comprehensive level design through public open space can facilitate reduction to earthworks exercise.
